His April Fools Proposal Wasn’t a Prank

Shit got REAL on Sunday! Austin told me we were going to go see the sunset and then have a nice dinner out afterwards… and since it was Easter, I wasn’t expecting a proposal at all! I kid you not, I had no idea!

When we got to the Laguna Beach hilltop park, I was taken back by the beauty of the mountains and how far you could see in every direction. As we stood over the hills, I got this weird suspicion that something was going to happen. He pulled out a bottle of wine (which actually wasn’t abnormal for us, we love tipsy explorations), and after knocking half a water bottle or so back (gotta be subtle in public, ok?!), he reached into his backpack and pulled out a medium sized tan rock. I was still unsure what was going on at this point…

And then he opened the rock, it was a geode ring box. Beautiful teal gems and an even more beautiful ring were inside. But all I could see was my best friend, down on one knee, looking like he was going to pass out. I was in complete shock. That moment was so fast yet felt so frozen in time. It was the easiest yes I’ve ever said in my life.

His two best friends wore disguises and hid behind some bushes to take secret photos, and they immediately came down to where we stood to congratulate us. But I felt like I was in the twilight zone. WHAT JUST HAPPENED?!?!!!!!!

For the next two days, I smiled so much my face hurt. I cannot believe I am engaged to my best friend. I can’t wait to share my life with someone who I love being beside through every experience, every day.

I am so thankful to have such a selfless, loving, passionate man as my partner for life!
